Article 11 Trust and Netpol Seek Bookkeeper

The Article 11 Trust and Netpol are looking for a Bookkeeper. We are looking for someone who is committed to our objectives, with experience of financial book keeping.

Role title: Bookkeeper
Reports to: Treasurer and Operations Committee (Article 11 Trust) Finance Lead (Netpol)
Location: Remote / occasional in-person meetings in London
Hours: Approx. 1.5 – 2.5 days per month with about 4 hours spent on Article 11 Trust and 8 hours on Netpol book keeping (variable around year-end) – we anticipate that this will be 20.5 days in a 12 month period.
Contract type: Freelance agreement for an initial 12 months
Pay rate: £30 hour, paid on invoice on a monthly basis. Netpol will administer payments to the contractor who is appointed.

For the first month there may be up to 2 days of work as you get your head round the Article 11 Trust and Netpol systems.

Purpose of the role

To maintain accurate financial records, ensure timely reconciliation and reporting, and lead on preparing the financial information required for the Trust’s annual accounts. The bookkeeper provides day-to-day financial management and reporting, working closely with the Treasurer and accountant to support the Trust’s governance and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bookkeeping and reconciliation – Monitor payments, reconcile transactions, categorise expenditure, import any PayPal or other digital payment data into Xero as required.
  • Financial recordkeeping – File regular statements and reports, maintain orderly records for payments and income. Ensure all income and expenditure is accurately coded against grant budgets and tracking categories.
  • Reporting – Produce quarterly management reports for Trustees and committees, showing expenditure and balances by category or project.
  • Payments and approvals – Prepare and process payments, coordinate Trustee authorisation where necessary.
  • Annual accounts support – Compile and provide all financial data and Xero reports required by the external accountant, act as the primary liaison for the accountant during year-end processes, work with the Treasurer and Operations Committee to ensure accounts are reviewed and finalised on time. Bookkeeper will be responsible for submitting accounts.
  • Communication and collaboration – Work closely with Treasurer and Operations Committee to ensure smooth financial operations.

Person specification

  • Proven experience with Xero or similar accounting software.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Understanding of charity or small-organisation bookkeeping.
  • Clear communication and good record-keeping habits.
  • Ability to manage own workload and meet deadlines.
  • Confidence liaising with accountants and Trustees on financial reporting and compliance.
